Community-Led Walking Tours

The Swearer Center offers Community-Led Walking Tours for Brown faculty, staff and students. These tours connect participants with the stories, history and lived experiences that shape Providence and the surrounding communities. Through guided, place-based experiences, participants engage with neighbors, local spaces and community priorities in meaningful, reflective ways.

Tours are designed and led by community partners, including local leaders and residents. Tours can include:

  • Visits to significant neighborhood sites and community spaces;
  • Conversations with local leaders, organizers and residents;
  • Exploration of community organizations and their work;
  • Stories of local history, culture and social change;
  • Engagement with public art, small businesses and gathering spaces.

Swearer Center staff and community partners will design a customized tour for your course, team, department or student organization, aligned with your group’s interests, learning goals and schedule. Review past walking tours for inspiration.
