Faculty can apply for Undergraduate Teaching and Research Awards (UTRAs) and to fund undergraduates working with faculty on research projects full-time during the summer or part-time during the academic year.

The Swearer Center’s Laidlaw Scholars Leadership and Research Program is a two-year scaffolded learning experience that students are admitted to during their first or second year at Brown; faculty can apply to work with Laidlaw Scholars through the Summer UTRA application process.

The Swearer Center also coordinates the Royce Fellowship, which supports undergraduate students as they carry out engaged research projects of their own design in locations across the United States and around the world. Fellows conduct their research under the supervision of a faculty member and as part of an interdisciplinary cohort of students from across the university.
