Biography

Allessandra Soares is a dedicated community member and higher education professional with deep roots in Providence, Rhode Island. As a first-generation college graduate and Cape Verdean-American, she brings a unique perspective and multilingual capabilities to her work, fluent in Cape Verdean Kriolu and Portuguese.
Soares earned her Bachelor of Arts in African Studies and Political Science from the University of Rhode Island.
In the nonprofit sector, Allessandra has contributed to organizations focused on community development and social services. Her leadership experience includes serving as the Executive Director of the Capeverdean American Community Development Center, where she worked to strengthen and empower the Cape Verdean community and beyond. She also contributed her expertise to The Providence Center, furthering its mission of providing comprehensive behavioral healthcare services to at-risk families in the greater Providence area.
Most recently, Allessandra applied her skills and experience in higher education at Brown University's Watson Institute for International and Public Affairs, where she served as an Academic Program Coordinator; in this role, she also acted as the staff liaison for Watson’s Diversity and Inclusive Action Plan committee, demonstrating her ongoing commitment to fostering inclusive academic environments and promoting diversity in higher education. Her journey from Providence native to community leader and higher education professional exemplifies her dedication to creating positive social change through education, community service and inclusive leadership.
