Community Engagement Council (CEC)

In 2022, President Paxson created a new Community Engagement Council (CEC) charged with advancing effective and culturally responsive research, teaching, learning and service engagement with community stakeholders that results in a mutuality of benefit.

The CEC informs the President and members of the President’s Cabinet on important issues related to community engagement across the institution. Its recommendations and supported initiatives focus on improving structures, policies, procedures and programs that advance Brown University’s community engagement agenda. With any questions about the CEC, its charge or committees, please email engage@brown.edu

CEC Committees

CEC committees are intended to be one important mechanism to advance the work of the CEC through participatory and inclusive spaces that engage a diversity of voices, experience and expertise and perspectives.

The CEC committees for 2024-25 include:

  • Assessment and Impact;
  • Broader Impacts;
  • Economic Development;
  • Engaged Scholarship;
  • Health and Medicine; and
  • K-12 Partnerships.

Engaged Faculty Directory

The Engaged Faculty Directory is a Researchers@Brown page that includes Brown faculty teaching courses that carry the Community-Based Learning and Research designation, as well as those faculty whose research profiles include relevant terms (e.g., engaged scholarship, community engagement, participatory research).

We encourage faculty to add relevant tags to their profile. Help on editing profiles is available at Researchers@Brown Help.
