2026 Swearer Center Students Award Nomination and Selection Criteria
Abelardo Hernández Community Engagement Award
The Community Engagement Award recognizes one graduating senior who has worked with a community partner for more than two years. This student will have built strong relationships with community members and practitioners and have added significant capacity to the partner’s work, with an eye towards sustainability beyond their own role.
How has the nominee:
Built relationships with community members and practitioners?
Demonstrated the principle of community agency and/or the value of listening to the community to inform action?
Added significant capacity to a community partner’s work?
Ensured sustainability beyond their role and built systems or relationships that will endure after they leave this community?
Achieved significant and (potential or actual) community impact?
The Student Leadership Award recognizes one graduating senior who has helped the Swearer Center to expand its work, reach more students, and/or improve our efforts to work with a diverse range of students, faculty, and community members.
How has the nominee:
Built enduring relationships at the Center and worked alongside staff to strengthen the activities of the Swearer Center?
Contributed to helping the Center expand its work, reach more students and improve its work with a diverse range of students, faculty, and community members?
